Dimension: dimensions represent descriptive data that talk about WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY, and HOW. In OLAP models, each dimension contains a hierarchy which contains different levels. Each level contains Members that represent actual data.
Dimension: Time
Hierarchy: Year
-> Quarter -> Month -> Day
Levels: Year,
Quarter, Month, Day
Members: 2004,
2005, 2006, 2007
Attributes: Day
Key, Date, Day of the week
Root Members: members which
are at top level in the hierarchy. For example, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007.
All Members: members that are present at all the levels.
MUN: members contain a descriptor
called member unique name (MUN). MUN describes member's position in a
dimensional structure. If a MUN is changed, any report that references that MUN
will not work.
