Detail and Summary Filters in Cognos Report Studio

Detail filter is applied on detail data either Before Auto Aggregation or After Auto Aggregation. Summary filter is applied only on the aggregations which are created in the report. 

Steps to create Detail filter
  
1. Open Report Studio and create a List report from  GO Sales (query) package as shown below.

 

2. Go to Query Explorer and click on Query1

 

3. From Toolbox menu, drag and drop Filter to the Detail Filters section

 

4. Create a filter as shown below

 

5. Set the Application property to After Auto Aggregation

6. Run the report.  The results will only show the records where the Revenue >= 100000000





Steps to create Summary filter

Example 1:

1. Create a simple List report with the following columns

2. Run the report to see the actual results

3. Create a summary filter and set the scope as shown below

4. Run the report again. Here, you can only see the maximum  Revenue data for each Product Line

Example 2:

1. Create a List report as shown below

 

2. Run the report to see the actual results

 

3. Create a Summary filter and set the scope as shown below

4. Run the report again and see the difference in the output. Now, you will only see the Revenue data whose totals are >= 1000000000
